At its September 9 hardware event, Apple introduced the Apple Watch Series 12 alongside the Watch Ultra 4 and its latest smartphone line, including the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Duo. Although the new Series 12 retains a design language similar to its predecessor, it brings major updates under the hood, including a faster processor, redesigned biometric sensors, and AI-powered additions, all while keeping the starting base price unchanged.
Design and Display
The Apple Watch Series 12 comes in standard 42mm and 46mm sizing options. Apple has reintroduced ceramic finishes this year, available in Pearl White and Night Blue. The titanium edition comes in Radiant Gold and Natural, whereas the aluminum model offers Dark Bronze, Light Gold, Black, and Space Gray.
For the display, the watch features an Always-On Retina wide-angle OLED LTPO3 panel delivering up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness and a 1Hz refresh rate. Screen resolutions are rated at 374 x 446 pixels for the 42mm size and 416 x 496 pixels for the 46mm variant, both achieving a pixel density of 326ppi. Aluminum models are protected by Ceramic Shield 2, while titanium and ceramic versions use scratch-resistant sapphire front crystal.
Performance and AI Features
Powering the Series 12 is Apple's new S11 chip, marking the first processor upgrade in two years since the S10. Running on watchOS, the enhanced CPU and GPU performance provides additional headroom for expanding AI capabilities. Key software highlights include an upgraded Siri and Audio Intelligence, which allows users to rewind the last 15 seconds of spoken audio, with future support planned for automatic notes and highlights.
Overhauled Health Tracking
Apple has restructured the rear sensor layout with central photodiodes and increased contact points against the skin for better accuracy. The device continuously measures heart rate every five seconds and HRV every five minutes. A new metric called "Readiness" synthesizes workout data, vitals, and sleep patterns into an actionable score indicating daily physical recovery.
Standard health features also remain available, including ECG, blood oxygen (SpO2) monitoring, sleep tracking with Sleep Score, cycle tracking, irregular heart rhythm alerts, sleep apnea notifications, and hypertension detection.
Expected Price and Availability in Nepal
While global pricing starts at the same entry point as the previous generation, the Apple Watch Series 12 is expected to launch in Nepal in the coming weeks through authorized distributors.
