Google has expanded its wearable device portfolio with the launch of the Fitbit Edge, a brand-new fitness tracker designed to sit between the screenless Fitbit Air and the premium Pixel Watch. Unlike the display-less Air model, the Fitbit Edge comes with an OLED screen for viewing notifications, fitness metrics, and health data directly on your wrist.
Design and Display
The Fitbit Edge features a sleek profile measuring just 11.5mm in thickness, built with a metal casing made partially from recycled aluminum. It sports a 1.34-inch Hybrid OLED display that provides 46% more viewable screen space compared to older Fitbit trackers. The panel supports Always-on Display, adjustable brightness, and backlighting. Navigation is enhanced via glanceable tiles, custom watch faces, and a dedicated physical side button for fast access to options like pausing workouts.
In terms of styling, the tracker is available in four distinct color options: Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon. Users can further customize their look with interchangeable sport, loop, magnetic, and metal-link straps. The smartwatch also displays Google Maps turn-by-turn directions, weather alerts, and call or message notifications.
Fitness Features and Advanced Health Monitoring
Equipped with over 50 exercise modes—including running, cycling, Pilates, and HIIT—the tracker delivers real-time guidance such as heart rate zones and pace targets. It can automatically detect and log up to 100 different activities, ensuring workouts are captured even if you forget to start them manually. For outdoor enthusiasts, the integrated GPS boasts up to 40% higher tracking accuracy over previous generations, accompanied by an altimeter to monitor elevation changes.
Health tracking features include continuous heart rate monitoring, an ECG app for rhythm assessments in supported regions, overnight skin temperature tracking, sleep-stage analysis, and Heart Rate Variability (HRV) metrics. It also incorporates Google's Health Guardian tools to track trends related to blood pressure and insulin resistance indicators for general wellness. Subscribers to Google Health Premium can also leverage the Gemini-powered Google Health Coach to get custom workout plans aligned with their personal schedules.
Battery Life and Sustainability
The device offers up to seven days of battery life on a single charge and utilizes fast magnetic charging, where a five-minute charge yields up to a full day of typical usage. It carries a 5 ATM water resistance rating, making it swim-friendly. Notably, Google highlights the Fitbit Edge as its first repairable fitness tracker, engineered with a modular interior and a replaceable battery to extend product longevity.
Price and Availability in Nepal
The Google Fitbit Edge is officially priced at USD 179.99 in the United States. While official distribution for Nepal has not been formally announced yet, tech enthusiasts can expect it to reach Nepali retailers via authorized channels in the coming months.
