Apple Enters the Foldable Smartphone Space
Apple has officially debuted in the foldable phone market with the introduction of the iPhone Duo, launching alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Built with a book-style folding mechanism, the device transforms from a standard phone shape into a tablet-sized workstation. Featuring dual 48MP cameras, Apple's flagship A20 Pro chip, and premium hardware, the iPhone Duo is set to offer a unique hybrid experience for tech users in Nepal.
Design, Build, and Durability
The iPhone Duo features a durable titanium frame that enhances structural strength while offering a high-end feel. When closed, it measures 11.3mm in thickness and weighs roughly 254 grams, making it feel somewhat heavy and thick in hand compared to traditional devices. However, when unfolded, Apple advertises it as its thinnest iPhone yet. The engineered hinge provides a fluid folding motion, and the phone carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
Display Specs and Apple Pencil Support
The device sports two LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED displays, both offering smooth 120Hz refresh rates and up to 1600 nits of peak outdoor brightness. On the outside sits a compact 5.4-inch screen for fast single-handed navigation. Opening the device discloses a large 7.6-inch inner display with a 1.4:1 aspect ratio, ideal for side-by-side app multitasking and reading.
Unlike many foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 that use reflective glossy panels, the iPhone Duo's internal display features a matte nano-texture finish to cut glare in bright environments. This anti-reflective surface also minimizes the visual crease across the center fold during video playback or reading, although the crease remains slightly tactile. Transitioning between displays is seamlessly handled by the software, and the inner screen supports the Apple Pencil for digital sketching and quick note-taking.
Performance
At its core, the foldable runs on the latest A20 Pro processor—matching the horsepower of the flagship iPhone 18 Pro models. To maintain efficient thermal management under heavy workloads, Apple has integrated a custom vapor chamber cooling setup.
