Following the release of the OnePlus 15R in Nepal earlier this year—which brought a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip, a 165Hz AMOLED panel, and a massive 7,400mAh battery—early details surrounding its successor have now emerged online. Rumors regarding the OnePlus 16R point toward notable camera enhancements paired with top-tier hardware performance. Interestingly, reports indicate that this exact hardware arrangement is also undergoing testing under the Realme banner.
Upgraded Triple 50MP Camera System
The most significant enhancement highlighted in the leak involves the camera setup. The OnePlus 16R is expected to feature three 50MP sensors on the back, comprising a primary lens, an ultrawide camera, and a dedicated telephoto camera. This marks a meaningful upgrade over the current OnePlus 15R, which lacks a telephoto lens. A dedicated telephoto sensor should provide users with better versatility for zooming into distant subjects, though specific details regarding sensor models and optical zoom capabilities remain undisclosed.
Flagship Chipset and High Refresh Rate Display
According to current reports, the OnePlus 16R has entered the Production Validation Test (PVT) stage—a late phase in hardware development where pre-production units are evaluated before full-scale manufacturing begins. During this phase, the device is reportedly powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. If retained for the retail release, this chipset will deliver flagship-class performance tailored for heavy gaming, multitasking, and demanding apps. On the software front, the phone is expected to ship with ColorOS 17, though official confirmation is still pending.
Additionally, the leaks point to a 165Hz display, matching the fast refresh rate found on the OnePlus 15R. It remains unconfirmed whether OnePlus will introduce improvements to display brightness or screen resolution.
Massive Battery Capacity and Availability
Battery capacity is another area expected to see an upgrade. The device is tipped to pack a cell larger than 7,500mAh, surpassing the 7,400mAh rating of the 15R, though real-world battery performance will ultimately depend on system optimization and usage patterns.
These leaks come shortly after the Chinese launch of the flagship OnePlus 16. However, OnePlus has yet to formally announce launch timelines, global release plans, or official pricing for the OnePlus 16R. Details concerning its launch date and expected price in Nepal will be updated as soon as official information becomes available.
