Realme has been actively updating its smartphone lineup in Nepal, recently rolling out devices like the Realme P4 Power and the flagship GT 8 Pro. The latest addition to hit the mid-range segment is the Realme 16 5G. With its stylishly slim build, long software update commitment, and impressive 7,000mAh battery, it makes a striking first impression. However, with average gaming performance, basic speaker quality, and the lack of a telephoto camera, does it offer enough value for its price?
Pricing in Nepal
The Realme 16 5G is officially available in Nepal in a single 8GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration, priced at NPR 64,999. For comparison, the exact same variant is sold in India for INR 43,999.
Attractive and Surprisingly Slim Design
The design of the Realme 16 5G is easily one of its best aspects. Drawing subtle aesthetic cues from recent iPhone Air models and Pixel devices, it stands out with a refined look. It comes in two color options: Black Cloud, featuring a classy black-and-grey finish, and White Swan, which includes stylish patterns on the rear.
What makes the design impressive is its form factor. Despite housing a massive 7,000mAh battery, the phone measures just 8.1mm in thickness and weighs approximately 183 grams. It feels lightweight, comfortable in hand, and offers well-balanced ergonomics even with the camera module placed towards the top.
Another unique touch is the small "selfie mirror" positioned beside the rear camera setup. This allows users to easily frame photos and videos using the primary rear camera, making it a handy tool for creators making content for platforms like Instagram or TikTok.
On the downside, the phone uses a plastic rear panel and a plastic frame, which feels less premium than a glass-backed rival. For durability, it features IP68 and IP69K water and dust protection ratings to handle splashes and rain. The front display is guarded by AGC DT-Star D+ glass rather than the more common Gorilla Glass protection.
Vibrant 120Hz AMOLED Display
The device sports a 6.57-inch AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Navigating through the UI and scrolling through apps feels fluid, with no noticeable touch latency or stuttering.
Color reproduction is a strong point here, thanks to the 10-bit panel offering 100% DCI-P3 color coverage. Video streaming and media consumption are enjoyable with rich colors, good visibility outdoors, and vibrant output overall.
Final Verdict
The Realme 16 5G shines with its eye-catching design, bright display, reliable battery endurance, and long-term software support. However, users looking for heavy gaming capability, stereo speakers with depth, or a telephoto camera lens might feel it falls a bit short considering its mid-range price tag.
