Xiaomi is shaking up its foldable smartphone strategy. Instead of sticking with the expected Mix Fold 5 moniker, the company has officially rebranded its upcoming book-style device as the Xiaomi 18 Fold. The tech brand gave tech fans a first look at the foldable during IFA 2026, showcasing a revamped form factor alongside key hardware details and preliminary specifications.
Passport-Style Build and Smooth LTPO Screens
The Xiaomi 18 Fold steps away from elongated designs, adopting a shorter and wider passport-like body with curved corners. The previewed unit sports a striking vibrant red color scheme, accented by a horizontal camera visor across the upper back. Both the cover and main internal displays incorporate dedicated selfie cameras in punch-hole cutouts.
Reports indicate that the foldable packs a 7.58-inch primary inner screen and a 5.38-inch cover display. Both panels are expected to leverage LTPO technology with dynamic refresh rates reaching 120Hz. Early impressions highlight very slim bezels on the inner display, with a crease that remains barely noticeable from standard viewing angles.
Custom 3nm XRing O3 Silicon and Performance
Under the hood, Xiaomi has verified that the 18 Fold runs on its proprietary 3nm XRing O3 processor, accompanied by next-gen LPDDR6 memory support. A benchmark leak previously listed a version featuring 16GB of RAM, and official claims suggest the new chipset has broken the 5 million mark on AnTuTu benchmarks. Out of the box, the device is expected to run HyperOS 4 built on top of Android 17.
Camera Array, Battery, and Charging
For photography, the rear horizontal visor is rumored to feature an ambitious triple-camera setup led by a 200MP main camera, alongside a 50MP periscope telephoto lens and a 50MP ultrawide sensor.
Keeping the hardware powered is a rumored 6,000mAh battery, a substantial capacity for a slim foldable frame. Charging speeds are tipped to reach 100W for wired fast charging and 50W for wireless charging, though Xiaomi has not officially confirmed these power figures yet.
Launch Details and Nepal Outlook
Xiaomi confirmed that the 18 Fold will officially debut in China on September 7, 2026. Official global pricing and international rollout plans remain unannounced. As previous book-style foldables from the brand focused heavily on the domestic market, official availability in Nepal remains unconfirmed for now.
