Apple's latest compact desktop powerhouses, the Mac Studio featuring the new M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips, have officially arrived in Nepal alongside the Mac mini M6 and M5 Pro models. Designed for demanding creative and technical workflows, the updated Mac Studio brings dramatic performance improvements, especially in artificial intelligence and graphics compute.
Unmatched AI and Compute Performance
The Mac Studio M5 Max offers up to an 18-core CPU and a 40-core GPU. Apple has added a Neural Accelerator inside every GPU core, helping the M5 Max achieve up to 3.9x faster AI processing and 50% quicker GPU rendering compared to the prior M3 Max, along with upgraded ray tracing capabilities. Base configurations start with 36GB of unified memory and 512GB of SSD storage, customizable up to 128GB of memory and 8TB of storage.
For extreme workloads like 3D rendering and machine learning, the Mac Studio M5 Ultra steps up with up to a 36-core CPU and an 80-core GPU. Delivering up to 4.3x peak AI compute performance compared to the M3 Ultra, it also provides 1.8x faster graphics and 1.3x higher multithreaded CPU performance. The M5 Ultra starts at 96GB unified memory with 1TB SSD storage, and can be configured up to a massive 512GB of unified memory and 16TB SSD capacity—the highest ever in a Mac Studio.
Pro Connectivity and Display Support
Both models share the same iconic compact chassis but feature modern wireless standards, including Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, as well as a built-in 10Gb Ethernet port. Physical connections on the rear include four Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, 10Gb Ethernet, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The front panel conveniently houses two USB-C ports and an SDXC card slot.
Multi-monitor power gets a huge boost: the M5 Max drives up to five external displays simultaneously, while the M5 Ultra supports up to eight. Additionally, USB-C Genlock support enables exact display pipeline synchronization for live broadcast and camera setups.
Enhanced Media Engine and AI Frameworks
Video editors benefit from an upgraded Media Engine with hardware acceleration for H.264, HEVC, ProRes, and AV1. The M5 Ultra doubles the video encode and decode engines of the M5 Max, handling up to 33 simultaneous streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30fps. Both workstations support Apple's Core AI and MLX frameworks for seamless local machine learning development.
