Samsung has refreshed its entry-level mid-range segment with the launch of the Galaxy A18 4G, succeeding the Galaxy A17 4G. The most notable change in this iteration lies under the hood, where Samsung has replaced the third-party processor with its internal chipset alongside a few key durability enhancements.
Design and Screen
The Galaxy A18 4G retains the glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) chassis seen on its predecessor. The handset measures 7.7mm in thickness and weighs 196 grams, making it slightly thicker and heavier than the A17. In terms of durability, the dust and water protection has been upgraded to an IP64 rating from the previous IP54 standard. Color options for the phone include Grey, Light Blue, and Black.
For the display, the device features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) and a 90Hz refresh rate for smoother visuals. Rather than adopting a punch-hole cutout, Samsung has retained the traditional U-Cut waterdrop notch for the front camera.
Performance and Software
Powering the Samsung Galaxy A18 4G is the new Exynos 1610 chipset, taking over from the MediaTek Helio G99 found on the prior generation. Samsung highlights that the new chip offers a 32% boost in CPU single-core performance, a 7% gain in CPU multi-core performance, and a 7% improvement in GPU output. Memory options include 4GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage, expandable via a microSD card slot.
On the software front, the phone boots Android 17 topped with One UI 9.0 out of the box. Notably, Samsung promises six years of major OS upgrades alongside six years of security updates for this model.
Camera and Battery
The rear camera arrangement remains unchanged, featuring a 50MP primary sensor, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro camera. For selfies and video calling, a 13MP sensor is located inside the display notch. Battery capacity stands at 5,000mAh, supported by 25W fast wired charging.
Price and Availability in Nepal
The Samsung Galaxy A18 4G has made its official debut in Europe at a starting price of NOK 3,290 for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage model. While Samsung has not formally confirmed its arrival date in the region, the expected price of the Samsung Galaxy A18 4G in Nepal is around NPR 54,099 should it launch locally.
