Price and Market Positioning in Nepal
Samsung's budget smartphone lineup sees a major shift with the release of the Galaxy A08. While the previous-generation Galaxy A07 debuted in Nepal at a starting price of Rs. 15,999 for the 4/64GB variant, the new Galaxy A08 starts at a significantly higher Rs. 34,499 for the same memory configuration—more than double its predecessor's launch cost. Even with the A07's current listed price sitting at Rs. 25,499, the Galaxy A08 demands an extra Rs. 9,000 premium. It is available in Nepal across three memory configurations.
Design, Build, and Ergonomics
Handling both devices reveals noticeable changes in physical dimensions. The Galaxy A08 is 13g heavier and 0.4mm thicker than the A07, making the older model feel noticeably slimmer and lighter in hand. On the back, Samsung swapped the glossy rear panel of the A07 for a matte texture adorned with subtle, reflective hashtag-like patterns visible from specific angles. Camera positioning and overall design aesthetics remain familiar. Essential hardware features like the fast side-mounted fingerprint scanner and the 3.5mm headphone jack are still present. Durability gets a minor boost as well, moving from an IP54 rating on the A07 to IP64 on the A08, which upgrades dust protection while retaining the same level 4 splash resistance.
Display and Visual Experience
On the front, Samsung retains the HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate from the A07. Given the notable price jump, a Full HD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate would have been a welcome addition. Nevertheless, side-by-side testing reveals clear visual improvements: the Galaxy A08 achieves higher brightness levels both indoors and under direct sunlight, along with richer color reproduction in media apps like YouTube. While colors can occasionally look slightly oversaturated, the touch response remains smooth and responsive across daily usage and social media scrolling.
Software and Long-Term Support
Software remains one of Samsung’s core strengths. The Galaxy A08 runs One UI 9 built on top of Android 17, providing a clean, intuitive layout free from clutter or invasive bloatware. The interface is easy to navigate for users of all age groups. Crucially, Samsung guarantees up to six years of OS upgrades and six years of security updates, making it a solid long-term option for buyers in Nepal.
