Huawei has officially introduced its latest TWS earbuds, the Huawei FreeBuds 7, alongside its newest flagship devices in China. The new semi-in-ear wireless earbuds offer significant upgrades over their predecessor, featuring adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC), high-resolution lossless audio playback, and advanced AI capabilities.
Refined Design and Comfort
The Huawei FreeBuds 7 adopts the brand's Yuezhang Star Ring design while keeping an open-fit, semi-in-ear structure. Huawei engineered the earbuds after analyzing ear data from over 10,000 individuals, resulting in a 19% reduction in average wearing pressure and shifting the center of gravity 17% closer to the sound outlet for better stability.
Each earbud weighs 4.3 grams, making them 12% lighter and 15% smaller than the previous generation. Similarly, the charging case is 25% smaller and 17% lighter. The earbuds also feature an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance and come in Sunlight Orange, Midsummer Purple, Moonlight White, and Starry Black.
Next-Gen ANC and Sound Performance
Powering the audio experience is Huawei’s third-generation Audio AI chip equipped with dual DSPs and a dedicated NPU. It samples environmental noise up to 400,000 times per second with a processing latency as low as 8 microseconds. Huawei states that the earbuds achieve 2.3 times higher average noise cancellation depth and a 275% increase in maximum noise cancellation bandwidth compared to the older model.
Audio performance is handled by the Yuezhang Audio Quality system, which combines a custom high-fidelity full-range driver with a Turbo acoustic architecture. The earbuds cover a frequency response range of 14Hz to 48kHz, support 96kHz/24-bit lossless audio playback with transfer speeds up to 4.6Mbps, and reduce the noise floor by 20%. Additional audio highlights include Quadruple Adaptive EQ and Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.
Clear Voice Calls and AI Integration
For crystal-clear voice calls, the FreeBuds 7 incorporates three microphones, a bone-conduction pickup sensor, and AI noise reduction, providing up to 100dB two-way call noise reduction and wind resistance up to 8m/s.
Smart functionality includes AI Smart Audio Notifications, an AI Agent, and Intelligent Message Summarization for travel or delivery updates. The earbuds can also record phone calls or ambient audio directly from the case, offering real-time transcription, translation, and summaries. Translation support covers phone-to-earbud, dual-earbud, simultaneous interpretation, and offline Chinese-English modes.
Connectivity and Touch Controls
Equipped with Bluetooth 6.0 and Star Flash NearLink E2.0, the FreeBuds 7 supports dual-device pairing and HarmonyOS Multi-Device Connection. Audio codec support includes SBC, AAC, L2HC, and LDAC alongside Hi-Res Audio certification, pass-through mode, and low-latency audio. Controls are handled through the earbud stems, supporting tap, double-tap, triple-tap, slide, long-press, and pinch gestures, while device settings can be managed via the AI Life app on Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS.
