Google has officially introduced its brand-new laptop platform known as the Googlebook. Positioned above traditional Chromebooks, these devices run on an Android-powered operating system (Android 17) to deliver a full desktop computing environment alongside deep integration with Android smartphones.
Premium Design and Hardware Features
Google has partnered with major manufacturers—Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo—to introduce five distinct models in the first lineup. The Googlebooks boast metal builds, sharp OLED screens, and large haptic trackpads. A notable design element across all five devices is the 'Glowbar', an illuminated light strip on the outer lid that indicates boot status and battery levels. Google also plans to release an API for developers to expand Glowbar functionality in the future.
Performance, Battery, and AI Integration
The laptops feature 16GB of standard RAM, with select variants configurable up to 32GB. Under the hood, buyers can choose between Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite or Intel's Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) processors. Both options utilize a completely fanless design and incorporate an NPU delivering 45 TOPS of on-device AI performance. Google rates the battery life at up to 16 hours of web browsing or 14 hours of video playback.
Artificial intelligence is deeply built into the OS via Google Gemini. Features like 'Magic Pointer' allow users to contextually invoke Gemini on screen contents, such as automatically extracting event dates from emails or PDFs to add to a calendar. The 'Rambler' feature assists with voice dictation by removing filler words, while developer tools include 'Antigravity' for AI agent deployment alongside terminal access for tools like Claude CLI.
Smartphone Integration and Model Lineup
Phone integration includes 'Cast My Apps' for launching smartphone applications directly on the desktop, unified file manager access, and 'Continue On' for switching tasks between mobile and laptop (subject to app developer support).
The debut lineup includes:

- Dell XPS Googlebook: Powered by Snapdragon X Elite, starting at $1,199.
- Lenovo Googlebook 15: Features a larger 15.3-inch OLED screen.

Preorders are currently open, with official retail availability beginning in the US on October 4, 2026, followed by Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5.
