Xiaomi 17T Launched in Nepal: 5x Telephoto Zoom, Specs, and Updated Price

First entering the Nepali market in May as the direct successor to last year's Xiaomi 15T, the Xiaomi 17T introduces meaningful upgrades across its camera, display, and performance. However, prospective buyers should note that the device recently received a price hike of NPR 10,000 in Nepal. This places it in tighter competition with upper mid-range contenders like the POCO X8 Pro Max, Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, and Vivo V70.

Class-Leading 5x Telephoto Camera with Leica Optics

The highlight of the Xiaomi 17T is its triple-camera setup. It remains the only smartphone in its class in Nepal to feature a dedicated 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. Backed by Leica optics and software enhancements—including Leica Master Mode—it delivers versatile shot choices compared to competitors. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy A57 and Honor 600 omit a zoom lens altogether, while the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro and Vivo V70 offer narrower 3x and 3.5x optical zoom ranges.

Alongside the telephoto unit sits a 50MP primary sensor equipped with OIS for low-light clarity, alongside a 12MP ultra-wide lens that offers consistent color tuning across all sensors. For video, all three rear lenses support 4K recording at 30 fps, while the main and telephoto sensors can push up to 4K at 60 fps. On the front, a 32MP selfie camera captures natural skin tones, though it does not carry Leica branding.

Dimensity 8500 Ultra and Software Support

Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra processor, a step up from the Dimensity 8400 Ultra on the Xiaomi 15T. Shared with gaming devices like the POCO X8 Pro, this chipset delivers strong gaming and processing performance over rival chips in Samsung, Vivo, and Nothing phones. Configuration options reach up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 internal storage.

Software features include HyperOS 3.0 built on Android 16. Xiaomi promises solid long-term usability by committing to 4 years of major Android updates and 6 years of security patches.

Compact IP68 Build and AMOLED Display

Design-wise, Xiaomi has shrunk the footprint compared to the previous generation, offering a more compact glass-back device with plastic framing. It carries an IP68 rating against dust and water resistance and is available in Opal White, Blue, Violet, and Black finishes.

The display moves from a 6.89-inch panel on the 15T to a smaller 6.59-inch AMOLED panel. Despite the reduced size, the screen maintains high specs, including a 120Hz refresh rate, 12-bit color depth capable of rendering 68 billion colors, and Dolby Vision certification for streaming platforms.
