Sony has officially introduced a refreshed version of its popular noise-canceling headphones, named the Sony WH-1000XM4C. Retaining the classic design of the original WH-1000XM4, this updated model brings refined audio tuning, a 10-band equalizer, and a lower price point compared to Sony's newer flagship wireless headphones.
Design and Build
The WH-1000XM4C sticks closely to its predecessor's well-received form factor, utilizing a closed-back over-ear structure that folds for easy storage. Weighing in at approximately 253 grams, the headset is light enough for extended daily use. Sony includes a dedicated carrying case and a detachable audio cable in the box for wired playback. Color options for this model include Black, Platinum Silver, and Lavender.
Audio Performance and Features
Equipped with Sony's signature 1000X-series active noise cancellation (ANC), the WH-1000XM4C is tuned to reduce daily environmental distractions like traffic, office chatter, and transit noise. It houses 40mm drivers delivering a frequency response range of 4Hz to 40kHz over a wired connection, complemented by Sony's DSEE Extreme sound enhancement tech. Listeners can customize sound profiles using a new 10-band equalizer inside the companion Sony Sound Connect app.
Other smart capabilities include Ambient Sound Mode, Quick Attention mode, and the Personal Noise Cancelling Optimizer to tailor ANC to individual listening conditions.
Connectivity and Battery Life
On the wireless side, the headphones upgrade to Bluetooth 6.0 with support for SBC, AAC, and high-resolution LDAC audio codecs. Multipoint connection is also included, enabling smooth switching between two paired devices such as a laptop and a smartphone. Charging is done via USB, while a standard 3.5mm stereo mini jack allows for traditional wired listening.
The battery is rated to last up to 27 hours of continuous playback with ANC turned on, or up to 34 hours with ANC off. A complete charge takes around 3 hours. For voice calls, continuous communication time reaches up to 20 hours with ANC enabled and up to 27 hours with ANC disabled.
