Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon 6 Gen 5
Qualcomm has officially announced its new mid-range processor, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. Built for 2026 mid-range smartphones, this new system-on-chip brings several premium flagship capabilities to a more accessible price point, including 120 FPS gaming support, Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, Bluetooth 6.0, and up to 100x zoom capability.
Upgraded CPU and GPU Performance
Under the hood, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 features an updated Kryo CPU setup with 4 performance cores running at up to 2.6 GHz and 4 power-efficiency cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz. In real-world operation, this setup ensures quicker app startup times, smoother multitasking, and reliable sustained performance during heavy usage.
On the graphics side, the built-in Adreno GPU delivers a 21% performance jump over the older Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. Crucially, this marks the first time a Snapdragon 6-series processor supports 120 FPS gaming, showcased in titles like Honor of Kings. To maintain stable frame rates and thermal control, the chipset integrates Qualcomm's Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0, Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, and Qualcomm FPS 3.0. The Adreno GPU also supports HDR gaming, Vulkan 1.3, and OpenGL ES 3.2.
Camera and Media Features
For mobile photography, the Qualcomm Spectra ISP features dual 12-bit ISPs and can handle up to a 200 MP single camera sensor. Image processing is enhanced by Hardware-based Multi-Frame Noise Reduction and AI-based Night Vision. On the video front, the chip supports up to 4K HDR video capture at 30 FPS as well as 720p slow-motion recording at 240 FPS.
Connectivity and Display Specs
Connectivity sees major upgrades with Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) support, delivering peak transfer rates of up to 5.8 Gbps over 320 MHz channels (requiring a compatible Wi-Fi 7 router). The chip also brings Bluetooth 6.0 with Channel Sounding for precise device tracking, alongside Qualcomm XPAN for uninterrupted audio transitions between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Cellular networking is handled by a 5G sub-6 GHz modem with download speeds up to 2.8 Gbps, while navigation incorporates dual-frequency GNSS (L1/L5) and NavIC support.
Additionally, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 supports FHD+ displays at up to 144 Hz refresh rates, up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage. Fast charging is managed via Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 through USB Type-C 2.0 standards. Qualcomm has confirmed that future Xiaomi devices will be among the first to feature the new chipset.
