Purbanchal University has formally endorsed a total annual budget of NPR 1.991697 billion for the fiscal year 2083/84. The decision was ratified during the university's 43rd Senate meeting, held at the Ministry of Education in Singhadurbar. Chaired by Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel, the assembly accepted the complete statement of income and expenditure along with strategic policies introduced by Registrar Prof. Dr. Panna Bahadur Thapa.
Academic Upgrades and Digital Infrastructure
For the upcoming fiscal year, the university is channeling significant resources into modernizing academic frameworks, building tech infrastructure, and broadening medical education. Under its master vision, physical infrastructure will be expanded across its 805-bigha land plot in Gothgaun. To promote administrative transparency and operational efficiency, the university is also shifting its academic and administrative workflows into an integrated digital system.
Expanding Tech, Health, and Research Programs
In terms of curriculum, Purbanchal University is introducing specialized programs in cutting-edge fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and data science, alongside updated curricula for medical and engineering disciplines. On the medical front, construction of the 100-bed Maternal and Child Health Hospital at the Gothgaun campus will be finalized, complemented by a clinical training collaboration with Koshi Hospital.
Furthermore, the institution plans to establish a research center dedicated to climate change and disaster risk reduction, initiate joint-degree and student exchange agreements with foreign universities, and expand inclusive scholarships targeting marginalized groups.
Leadership Directives and Appointments
During the session, Education Minister Pokharel called on higher education institutions to adjust to rapid technological shifts and focus on producing job-creating entrepreneurs rather than job-seekers. Education Secretary Chudamani Paudel and Finance Secretary Dr. Ghanshyam Upadhyay also highlighted the necessity of strict budget discipline.
The Senate also appointed three members to the University Executive Council for a three-year term: Prof. Dr. Paricha Upadhyay Dhungel (Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences), Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Pandey (Dean, Faculty of Arts, Law, and Education), and Prof. Mohan Bahadur Basnet from the P.U. School of Management.
