iQOO has officially unveiled its newest flagship smartphone in China, the iQOO 16. Debuting as the successor to the iQOO 15, this performance-centric device brings notable upgrades across performance, display, battery life, and overall build quality.
Spacecraft-Inspired Design and Rugged Build
The iQOO 16 introduces a refreshed design on the back, featuring a spacecraft porthole-style camera module with a mechanical aesthetic and an underlying hexagonal motif. Depending on the exact variant, the phone measures between 8.30mm and 8.55mm in thickness and weighs around 222.5g to 229.8g.
It is available in three color options: Legend, Racing Track, and Chasing Light. The Chasing Light variant incorporates a holographic rear surface that alters its color depending on the angle of light. Additionally, the phone gains IP68 and IP69 ratings, offering protection against dust, water immersion, and high-pressure water jets.
Ultra-Bright 165Hz AMOLED Display
On the front, the smartphone sports a 6.85-inch 2K AMOLED screen with a resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels. It boasts a high 165Hz refresh rate for fluid gameplay and interface navigation. Visual clarity in bright daylight is enhanced by a global peak brightness of 2,800 nits and a local peak brightness reaching up to 10,000 nits. The panel also supports 3,300Hz PWM dimming to reduce flicker-induced eye fatigue, alongside wet-hand touch technology for uninterrupted control with damp fingers.
Top-Tier Performance and Gaming Hardware
Under the hood, the iQOO 16 is driven by Qualcomm's 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 internal storage. To boost graphics output and maintain steady frame rates during heavy gaming, iQOO has integrated its custom Q4 gaming chip to handle frame interpolation and offload tasks from the main SoC.
Thermal management is backed by an 8,500mm² 3D vapor chamber cooling mechanism, paired with the proprietary "Monster Super Core Engine" for optimal power and performance scheduling. On the software front, the phone runs OriginOS 7 layered on top of Android 17.
50MP Triple Camera Setup and Battery
For photography, the rear camera array includes a 50MP OmniVision OV50Q primary camera (1/1.3-inch sensor with OIS) that captures 79% more light compared to the prior model. It is complemented by a 50MP ultra-wide shooter and a 50MP Sony LYT-600 periscope telephoto sensor featuring 3x optical zoom. Upfront sits a 32MP selfie sensor. Powering the entire package is a huge 8,400mAh battery built for extended gaming sessions.
