HONOR has officially expanded its flagship lineup with the launch of the HONOR Magic 9 in China alongside a higher-end Pro Max version. Building on the foundation of last generation's AI capabilities, the standard Magic 9 focuses heavily on mobile photography, introducing a groundbreaking rear camera array co-engineered with legendary cinema camera manufacturer ARRI.
Design and Display
The device sports a 3D unibody cold-carved glass chassis featuring a camera module inspired by vintage movie cameras. Despite its high-end photography hardware, the Magic 9 remains relatively compact, measuring 8.49mm thick and weighing 209 grams. It is built to withstand extreme conditions, carrying triple IP68, IP69, and IP69K water and dust resistance ratings. Color options include Popcorn Yellow, Opening White, Curtain Black, and Olive Green.
On the front, the phone carries a 6.37-inch flat 1.5K OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and ultra-thin 0.95mm bezels. The display reaches an astonishing peak local brightness of up to 10,000 nits and a global peak brightness of 2,000 nits, while being able to drop down to 1 nit for night viewing. Eye protection is heavily emphasized, offering 3,840Hz PWM dimming, hardware-level low blue light output, AI display enhancements, and TÜV Rheinland Global Eye Care 6.0 certification.
Revolutionary ARRI-Backed Camera System
The standout highlight of the Magic 9 is its rear triple-camera setup, dominated by two 200MP sensors. The 200MP primary camera features a 1/1.4-inch sensor with an f/1.9 aperture and CIPA 7.5 image stabilization. Accompanying it is a 200MP telephoto camera (1/1.56-inch sensor, f/2.6) with an 85mm-equivalent focal length providing 3.5x optical zoom and up to 120x digital zoom. A 50MP ultrawide lens completes the trio on the back, while the front holds a 55MP selfie camera with a square sensor format for flexible framing options.
Through the ARRI collaboration, the Magic 9 includes professional cinematography tools such as ARRI LogC3 recording, 87 preset ARRI cinematic look profiles, and ARRI Movie Live in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio, which records 4K video while capturing three additional seconds of movement after pressing the shutter. Furthermore, the phone supports 200MP Zoom-Flash Portraits and can be fitted with an optional 88-gram G200 teleconverter attachment that extends the primary optical zoom to a 200mm equivalent focal length.
