Amazon has given its streaming lineup a fresh update by launching the new Fire TV Stick 4K. This latest model replaces the older Fire TV Stick 4K Select and Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, leaving the Fire TV Stick 4K Max as the top-tier option in the series.
Design and Display Features
The new Fire TV Stick 4K retains its compact stick form factor but features a slimmer body that plugs directly into a TV's HDMI port. In terms of visual capabilities, it supports 4K streaming at up to 60fps, alongside HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG formats for enhanced dynamic range. A convenient design change is its ability to draw power directly from a TV's compatible USB port using the provided USB cable, removing the need for a dedicated wall plug.
Upgraded Performance and Vega OS
Under the hood, the media player is powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core processor paired with 8GB of internal storage. Amazon claims this setup enables the device to boot faster, open apps up to 35% quicker, and start playback up to 20% faster compared to previous 4K models. For connectivity, it packs Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Bluetooth Low Energy.
Software is where the biggest shift happens: Amazon has replaced its Android-based Fire OS with a new Linux-based platform called Vega OS. While users still get access to popular streaming apps and Alexa voice features, Vega OS does not support Android APK sideloading, meaning manual app installation is no longer possible.
Redesigned Fire TV Remote
The device comes bundled with a redesigned Fire TV Remote, which has a flat top and a rounded, weighted base for better handling. It features a tactile metal Home button and a customizable 'Star button' that can be assigned to open a preferred application or trigger accessibility tools like Screen Magnifier and closed captioning. The remote retains standard media controls and the Alexa voice key. It is also available separately and works with Fire TV devices released since 2019 as well as Amazon Ember TVs.
Price and Availability in Nepal
The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K has been launched in the US for USD 59.99 with the new remote included, while the standalone remote costs USD 14.99. Amazon has not officially announced its launch or pricing for Nepal yet. However, if it arrives in the market, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K price in Nepal is expected to be around NPR 9,999.
