Design and Build
Xiaomi has officially introduced the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in China as the direct successor to the 17 Pro Max. The new flagship features a refreshed aesthetic built around a flat-body design and a micro-arc quad-curved metal frame. The device measures 163.39 mm in height and 77.6 mm in width. Depending on the back finish, the fiberglass edition measures 8.39 mm thick and weighs 235 grams, while the glass variant comes in at 8.47 mm thick and weighs 240 grams. Color options include Black, White Ice, Peach Pink, Star River Blue, alongside a special Transparent Edition.
Front and Rear Displays
On the front, the phone houses a 6.9-inch Super Pixel 2.0 Smart Privacy Screen with a resolution of 2624 x 1208 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness. The panel is safeguarded by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 and supports HDR10+, HDR Vivid, and Dolby Vision formats. A major highlight is its built-in hardware-level privacy display that restricts viewing angles to protect screen content from onlookers without requiring a physical screen guard. Users can toggle privacy mode for specific applications, and the selfie camera can automatically detect if someone nearby is looking at the screen.
Additionally, Xiaomi has added a rear 2.9-inch AMOLED secondary display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Beyond showing quick notifications and system information, this secondary panel acts as a live preview display for framing high-quality selfies using the main camera setup.
Performance, Battery, and Software
Powering the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, fabricated on a 2nm process. It offers configurations with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. The handset is backed by a massive 8,500mAh battery. On the software side, it runs HyperOS 4 based on Android 17, featuring system-level controls for the privacy display along with integrated AI capabilities like AI-assisted photography.
Camera System
For optics, the smartphone carries a Leica-tuned triple-camera system. The main camera features a 200MP Light Hunter 960L sensor measuring 1/1.28 inches with an f/1.67 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS), accompanied by a 200MP periscope camera.
