OnePlus has officially announced the OnePlus 16 in China as the direct successor to last year's OnePlus 15. While the new flagship maintains a design language similar to its predecessor, it introduces several significant hardware upgrades, including a massive 9,000mAh battery, a high-resolution 200MP main camera, and next-generation processing power.
Design and Build
The device keeps a flat screen and a square rear camera module, but adds new aesthetic variations across its color options: Dark Forest (black), Martian Masterpiece (orange), and Tomorrow Starlight (grey). The Tomorrow Starlight edition utilizes a silk glass process and integrates an interactive breathing light into the rear panel that illuminates the OnePlus logo and celestial coordinates for active notifications. The Martian Masterpiece model features a glass-fiber-reinforced composite back panel.
A dedicated physical button is located on the left edge, with the volume and power keys positioned on the right. For protection against drops and elements, the phone utilizes custom Crystal Shield Glass on both front and back, alongside IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K dust and water resistance ratings. The handset measures between 8.45mm and 8.55mm thick and weighs between 217 grams and 220 grams depending on the variant.
Display Quality
The front panel houses a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED screen with an FHD+ resolution of 1272 × 2772 pixels, narrow 1.15mm bezels, and a pixel density of 450 ppi. Built using BOE's X4 luminescent material, the screen supports 10-bit color depth, a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, global brightness of up to 2,000 nits, and a minimum brightness of 1 nit. The adaptive refresh rate ranges from 1Hz to 165Hz for general use, reaching up to 185Hz in supported gaming titles (compared to the 165Hz peak on the OnePlus 15).
Performance and Gaming
Under the hood, the OnePlus 16 is powered by Qualcomm's 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, upgrading from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It comes configured with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 internal storage. Thermals are managed by an upgraded Glacier Cooling System featuring a vapor chamber with 40% improved cooling efficiency and thermal gel that is 50% more effective. Three dedicated internal chips handle touch response, display processing, and network stability, alongside the Wind Chaser Game Kernel capable of supporting frame rates up to 185 FPS.
Camera, Battery, and Software
For photography, the device upgrades from the previous generation's 50MP primary sensor to a 200MP main camera featuring a 1/1.4-inch sensor and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The smartphone is powered by a massive 9,000mAh battery and runs ColorOS 17 based on Android 17 out of the box, offering AI photo-editing tools, AI note-taking, and contextual reminders.
