The Madan Puraskar Guthi has officially announced the recipients of the prestigious Madan Puraskar and Jagadamba-Shree awards for the year 2082 BS. The decision was finalized during the Guthi's General Assembly meeting conducted on Bhadra 21, 2083 BS. Ms. Bina Joshi (Rajbhandari) was awarded the Madan Puraskar 2082, while veteran lyricist Mr. Kiran Kharel was named the recipient of the Jagadamba-Shree 2082.
Madan Puraskar 2082 Winner and Shortlist
Ms. Bina Joshi (Rajbhandari) earned the coveted literary honor for her research-based book titled 'Newar Samudayaka Paramparagat Mukundonach (Newa: Samudayaya Paramparagat Khwapa: Pyakhan)', which documents traditional mask-dance practices and heritage. The winning title was selected from a total of 298 books published in 2082 BS.
Prior to the final decision, the Guthi had published a shortlist of ten books for the 'Madan Puraskar Shrestha Suchi 2082'. The shortlisted works included Keshab Raj Gyawali's Agyat, Keshab Dahal's Itha, Lalit Bista's Utkarsha, Roshan Kumar Jha's Nepalmandal-sanga Jodiyeko Simroungadh-ko Itihas, Veena Joshi Rajbhandari's book, Uma Subedi's Paridhi, Seema Aabhas's Mahayug, Shrawan Mukarung's Salah, Dr. Nabaraj KC's Swasparsha, and Nadeesh's Hiund.
Jagadamba-Shree 2082 and Condolences Expressed
Meanwhile, the Jagadamba-Shree 2082 was conferred upon Mr. Kiran Kharel in recognition of his dedicated contributions to Nepali lyrics and musical creations spanning over six decades.
During the meeting, the assembly also observed a moment of condolence for victims affected by the severe floods and landslides on Bhadra 10. The Guthi expressed sympathies to grieving families, wished quick recovery for the injured, and commended the relief efforts of volunteers and security forces.
History of the Awards
Founded in 2012 BS, the Madan Puraskar is awarded annually to outstanding Nepali-language books published globally. It was first presented in 2013 BS to Satyamohan Joshi (Hamro Lok Sanskriti), Chittaranjan Nepali (General Bhimsen Thapa ra Tatkalin Nepal), and Balaram Joshi (Adhikbhibhav Sthirvidyut Utpadak). The Jagadamba-Shree was instituted in 2045 BS in honor of Queen Jagadamba, with legendary musician Narayan Gopal as its inaugural recipient.
