Apple has officially unveiled its latest compact desktop, the Mac Mini powered by the new M6 processor. Designed with a primary focus on performance and artificial intelligence, the new Mac Mini M6 offers substantial upgrades over its M4 predecessor, delivering up to 4x faster AI capabilities, 2x faster graphics and storage, and a 40% jump in CPU performance.
Upgraded Processor and AI Performance
The Mac Mini M6 features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, upgraded from the 10-core CPU and GPU configuration found on the previous M4 model. It introduces a dual 16-core Neural Engine, with each GPU core now equipped with a Neural Accelerator. The chip delivers up to 170GB/s of unified memory bandwidth. Apple claims these enhancements yield up to 4.8x faster prompt processing in LM Studio and 2x faster ray-traced gaming performance in Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition.
macOS 27 Integration and AI Tools
Operating on macOS 27, the desktop integrates Apple Intelligence features across system apps such as Safari, Spotlight, Shortcuts, and Photos. Siri AI leverages personal context from messages, emails, and photos to answer queries, while Visual Intelligence allows users to analyze content displayed on screen. The combined power of the Neural Accelerators and Neural Engine enables local execution of supported AI models and automated workflows directly on the machine.
Memory, Storage, and Connectivity Options
The base model of the Mac Mini M6 comes with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of SSD storage, configurable up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of SSD storage. For networking, it includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and a default 2.5Gb Ethernet port that can be configured up to 10Gb Ethernet for faster wired speeds.
Ports, Display, and Design
On the front panel, the desktop provides two USB-C ports supporting USB 3 speeds up to 10Gbps, alongside a 3.5mm headphone jack. The rear panel houses three Thunderbolt 4 ports (up to 40Gbps transfer speeds), an HDMI port, and the Ethernet connector. The system supports up to three external displays at once. Structurally, the Mac Mini M6 retains the silver aluminum compact design, measuring 5 inches in width and depth, and 2 inches in height.
