Smartphone brand Vivo is preparing to officially launch its next-generation X500 lineup in China later this month. Ahead of the event, official teasers have highlighted major photography and videography enhancements, specifically targeting slow-motion video performance on the higher-end X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max smartphones.
Advanced 4K Slow-Motion Recording Options
After initially confirming support for 4K video recording at 240fps, Vivo's latest previews show that the X500 Pro series goes even further. The upcoming handsets will allow users to record 4K slow-motion video at interpolated modes reaching 480fps and an extreme 960fps. This gives creators immense flexibility when capturing fast-moving action without sacrificing video resolution.
Vivo achieves these high-frame-rate options through custom 4K frame interpolation combined with variable speed mapping algorithms. These processing technologies generate and manage supplementary frames to maintain smooth playback during slow-mo footage. Furthermore, both Pro variants will support 4K video capture at 120fps in HDR, offering another high-quality recording option for dynamic scenes.
Custom 50MP Sensor Co-Developed with Sony
The imaging upgrades extend beyond software and processing. Vivo's new ZEISS Ultra Dynamic Main Camera system debuts a custom 50MP primary sensor with a 1/1.28-inch optical format. Named the Phantom 900, this sensor was jointly developed by Sony and Vivo’s Blueprint Imaging division.
According to the manufacturer, this new sensor delivers a dynamic range of up to 17EV, which significantly improves detail retention in both dark shadows and bright highlights under tricky lighting conditions. To complement this, the top-end Vivo X500 Pro Max includes a 3-degree gimbal-like Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) mechanism for superior hardware-level camera stabilization.
Official Announcement Ahead
The entire Vivo X500 family—expected to consist of the standard X500, the X500 Pro, and the premium X500 Pro Max—is scheduled for release in China before the end of the month, with additional hardware details expected closer to launch.
