The Curriculum Development Centre of Tribhuvan University (TU) has officially discontinued its foreign degree recognition and equivalency service, ending a practice that spanned nearly five decades. The authority to determine academic equivalency for foreign university qualifications has been entirely transferred to the University Grants Commission (UGC).
This transition follows legal revisions under the Some Nepal Acts Amendment Act, 2082, which amended the University Grants Commission Act, 2050. Under the updated framework, the UGC assumed full responsibility for foreign degree equivalency starting Shrawan 1, 2083. As a result, the Centre stopped accepting new equivalency applications from Shrawan 1, focusing instead on clearing pending files registered up to the end of Asar before handing over management.
Handover of Institutional Records and Certificate Collection
In accordance with statutory mandates requiring historic equivalency data and institutional records to be handed over to the UGC within a set timeline, the Centre suspended all operations from Ashoj 23.
However, applicants who registered their files by the end of Asar and whose equivalency or recognition has already been approved can still receive their documents. The Centre clarified that students who have yet to collect their approved certificates can pick them up directly from the Curriculum Development Centre after the Dashain holidays.
