As of 1 September 2026, severe flooding has caused major disruptions to education across Nuwakot, Dhading, and Rasuwa districts. Learning activities have been halted for approximately 9,800 children attending 32 affected schools, which include 21 public, 10 private, and 1 religious institution.
Infrastructure Damage and Usage as Shelters
Physical damage has been reported in 17 schools across the affected districts. Of these, 9 schools are fully damaged—consisting of 6 public/community schools, 2 institutional/private schools, and 1 religious school. Another 8 schools (3 public and 5 private) sustained partial structural damage. Additionally, 8 public schools in Nuwakot and Rasuwa are serving as emergency shelters for 1,230 displaced individuals, interrupting education for 1,343 enrolled students.
Impact on Teachers and Students
The disaster has heavily affected academic personnel and students. The Education Cluster has recorded 267 casualty and missing reports across 12 schools in Dhading, Nuwakot, and Rasuwa. Among these documented cases, 18 people (1 teacher and 17 students) were swept away, while 249 people (15 teachers and 233 students) are currently missing.
Rasuwa district remains the hardest hit, with 233 of the reported cases concentrated in schools within Uttargaya Rural Municipality and Gosaikunda Rural Municipality. Broader media estimates suggest that up to 350 children and more than 50 parents could be missing. Verification processes remain ongoing to confirm details, especially for reports missing complete identifying information.
