Minister for Education and Sports and Pro-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Sasmit Pokharel, has stressed the mandatory implementation of the academic calendar, good governance, and the integration of modern technology to elevate educational standards in Nepal.
Addressing the 67th Senate meeting of Tribhuvan University held in Kirtipur, Minister Pokharel pointed out that higher education institutions must become research-driven and capable of competing on an international level.
Strict Calendar Adherence and Accountability
The Minister instructed university office-bearers to ensure that all core academic procedures—including entrance examinations, student admissions, routine classes, examinations, and result publications—strictly align with the official calendar. He added that if any deadline in the academic calendar is affected or missed, stakeholders must provide a convincing explanation.
Highlighting the connection between higher education and national development, Minister Pokharel urged professors and faculty members to engage in teaching and research activities that cultivate critical problem-solving skills, foster creativity, and enhance student employability.
Student-Centric Reforms and Technology Adoption
According to Pokharel, academic research conducted by the university should actively seek solutions for Nepal's pressing social, economic, cultural, environmental, and technological challenges. He reiterated that students must remain at the center of all ongoing university reform initiatives.
Emphasizing the role of innovation, Minister Pokharel stated that embracing modern technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), is essential for expanding opportunities and addressing contemporary academic and societal needs.
