Madhesh University, located in Birgunj, Parsa, has expanded its academic scope by launching three new degree programs for the 2083 B.S. academic session. Students can now enroll in the postgraduate Master of Business Administration (MBA), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). Prior to this expansion, the institution offered the Master of Public Administration (MPA), Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Laws (BA LLB), and Bachelor of Public Administration (BPM).
Current Academic Updates and Enrollment
According to University Registrar Bijay Kumar Yadav, instruction for the newly introduced LLB course has already begun, while administrative preparations to start BBA classes are currently in their final stages. Furthermore, the university has opened the admission process for the second batch of its postgraduate MPA program, with regular classes scheduled to begin as soon as enrollment wraps up. Registrar Yadav noted that enthusiastic student response to the initial course offerings encouraged the administration to broaden its curriculum.
University History and Upcoming Initiatives
Madhesh University was formally established on 22 Bhadra 2079 B.S. under the Madhesh University Act, 2079, which was passed by the Madhesh Provincial Assembly on 14 Baisakh 2079 B.S. During its inaugural year, the university commenced teaching under two faculties. It currently operates its central office from the rented National Trading building in Birgunj.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Deepak Bahadur Shakya highlighted several future strategic projects, including the establishment of the first Madhesh Research and Training Center in Madhesh Province to raise academic quality. He also shared plans to launch health and medical programs, including MBBS, physiotherapy, and lab technology. A technical feasibility study is underway to utilize Narayani Hospital in Birgunj and Pokhariya Hospital in Pokhariya as operational bases for the proposed MBBS program.
Additionally, the university intends to roll out MPhil and PhD degrees, alongside technical programs in pharmacy, science, and information technology. To connect rural communities with higher education, the university also aims to found the province's first "Madhesh Skill School," designed to align education with employment, skill development, and economic growth.
