Kathmandu University (KU), in partnership with the Asian Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs (AIDIA), has officially launched a new post-graduate degree: the Master in International Affairs, Economy and Diplomacy (MIAED). This two-year master's program aims to develop capable leaders capable of addressing geopolitical dynamics, economic shifts, and complex global challenges.
Program Overview and Curriculum
Delivered fully in English through face-to-face instruction, the 60-credit interdisciplinary program is spread across four academic semesters. According to Sunil K.C., Founder and Executive Chairman of AIDIA-MIAED, the curriculum blends strategic studies, public policy, economics, and international relations. Course Dean Prof. Imtiaz Ahmed highlighted that students will gain hands-on experience through think tank engagements, field visits, policy labs, diplomatic simulations, and research initiatives to bridge academic concepts with real-world practice.
Target Audience and Career Opportunities
The program features a distinguished faculty comprising seasoned scholars, industry specialists, and former ambassadors. Ambassador Durga Bahadur Subedi, PhD, Executive Vice Chairman and Principal of MIAED, explained that the program is tailored for recent university graduates, military personnel, civil servants, development professionals, and journalists. Graduates will be equipped for strategic roles in public policy groups, foreign ministries, United Nations agencies, global institutions, and multinational firms.
Eligibility and Admission Process
To be eligible for admission, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Selection for the inaugural class will be based on performance in an entrance exam followed by an interview. To ensure high academic standards, the first cohort will accept a maximum of 40 students. Deserving candidates can also apply for merit-based scholarships and fellowships.
Classes for the first MIAED batch are scheduled to commence in September 2026.
