Professor Dr. Bivek Baral has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University (KU). The Chancellor of the university made the appointment based on the recommendation of a three-member shortlist submitted by the Vice-Chancellor Selection and Recommendation Committee.
Competitive Selection Process
The appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor was conducted through an open and competitive selection procedure initiated by the Government of Nepal. Following an application process, the selection committee evaluated the candidates and shortlisted top applicants for further assessment, culminating in three final recommendations for the post.
Academic Qualifications and Career
Prof. Dr. Baral has been associated with Kathmandu University for several years, actively contributing to teaching, research, academic administration, and leadership, primarily within engineering fields. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Kathmandu University in 1999. He then obtained a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 2003, and completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Auckland, New Zealand, in 2010.
