Design and Build
HONOR has officially expanded its entry-level line-up with the launch of the HONOR X5ds in South Africa. The smartphone adopts a clean design featuring a flat frame and a rectangular camera module on the back. It measures 168.3 × 78.5 × 8.72mm and weighs around 214 grams. Available in Forest Green and Midnight Black, the phone carries an IP52 rating for basic protection against dust and minor water splashes.
Dual Display Setup
The device sports a 6.78-inch main LCD panel with a resolution of 720 × 1576 pixels, protected by aluminosilicate glass. It delivers up to 600 nits of typical brightness and is marketed with a 90Hz refresh rate, though it can support up to 120Hz depending on the workload. On the back, sitting next to the camera module, is a 2.01-inch secondary LCD display with a 240 × 296-pixel resolution. This mini screen allows users to view call alerts, control music playback, and act as a live viewfinder for taking high-res selfies using the primary rear camera.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, the HONOR X5ds runs on an octa-core Unisoc T610 processor. The entry-level 4G chip combines two Cortex-A75 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, with clock speeds reaching up to 1.8GHz. The device includes 4GB of physical RAM, 4GB of virtual RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. It features a dedicated triple-card slot to accommodate two SIM cards alongside a microSD card for expansion up to 1TB. On the software front, it ships with Android 16 Go Edition.
Camera, Battery, and Connectivity
For imaging, the phone is equipped with a 50MP main rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture, 4x digital zoom, and 1080p video recording support. The front notch houses a 5MP selfie camera. Powering the package is a massive 6,000mAh battery paired with 15W wired charging via a USB-C port. Security is handled by a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Additional features include a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G LTE, and GPS.
